Nigerian Immigrant Radiologist at UK's NHS Fixes Difficult Microsoft Bug Using AI
London, UK Dr. Adewale Okeke, a Nigerian immigrant radiologist working for the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), accomplished what armies of software engineers could not: fix a stubborn Microsoft Windows bug using Claude.
The Copilot bug, which started spreading in 2023, currently affects more than 60% of Windows machines worldwide. It shows up uninvited in every conversation like a talkative neighbor and insists on offering advice nobody asked for. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nutella, nearly half of Microsoft engineers are working on fixing this bug. The other half got fired.
Dr. Okeke, who studied medicine at the University of Ibadan before moving to the UK, was trying to analyze difficult MRI and CT scans, and could not take the Copilot bug any more. After the “turn it off and on again” failed, he consulted Claude.
Armed with screenshots, error messages, and the determination of a doctor who had survived Nigerian medical school, Dr. Okeke began investigating the problem. Claude suggested possible causes and troubleshooting steps. The pair reported landed on the winning approach within one hour of digital diagnosis.
Dr. Okeke posted his method in github and is planning to submit a paper on it to Science. According to three anonymous sources, Anthropic offered him a job, but he declined.
